Henderson to moderate Roberto Rovira presentation at The Architectural League of New York

Sakura Orihon, the exhibition of Ron Henderson’s cherry blossom accordion-fold sketchbooks at the United States National Arboretum, received an Honor Award for Communications from ASLA-RI.

Ron Henderson has been invited to the jury for the inaugural Living Water Awards which will recognize global design, research, and innovation in water-related projects by landscape architects, urban designers, environmental designers, and builders.

Ron Henderson, in collaboration with Alexis Arias, presented STRATEGIES FOR INCREASING CARBON CAPTURE IN THE URBAN FOREST: THE DRIVERLESS CITY PROJECT 提升城市森林碳捕获策略：无人驾驶城市项目, at the International Symposium on Landscape Architecture (ISLA 2021).

Ron Henderson, in collaboration with Sergio Salgado and Sarah Hanson of FurnacePFS, are invited to contibute a video essay on the Alfred Caldwell Grove and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe Crown Hall for the exhibition, Arboretum, at arc en rêve, Bordeaux, France.

Ron Henderson is invited to collaborate with the French Consulate in Chicago on the Urban Controversies project: a series of lectures and conferences over the next four years organized by the City of Paris on the occasion of the revision of the Paris Urban Masterplan (PLU) and with the aim of promoting dialogue on urban issues.

Ron Henderson gave a talk, You can cut all the flowers, but you can’t stop Spring, at the 2021 Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture annual meeting. The talk, titled after a passage from Pablo Neruda, explored 21st century botanical drawings of Abel Rodriguez, Kehinde Wiley, Macoto Murayama, and others.

New Horizons: Eight Perspectives on Chinese Landscape Architecture Today has been cited by the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) as a Best Book of 2020. Ron Henderson was author of one of three invited essays, A Profession in the Making, included in the book.

New Horizons: Eight Perspectives on Chinese Landscape Architecture Today was published by Birkhauser in October 2020. The book introduces the optimistic work of a new generation of private landscape architecture practices in China. Ron Henderson contributed a chapter, “The Making of a Profession,” that surveys the advance of Landscape Architecture as a widely influential discipline in design, conservation, urbanism, and ecology in China.

Studio Acting Conservatory at Logan Place renovated a former church into its new home for training actors and directors in Washington D.C. The buildings iconic shape was amplified with a red facade and new staircase that front onto a stage-like entry courtyard for gatherings and performances.

Ron Henderson is invited to a roundtable discussion “Gardner’s Gardens,” with Charles Waldheim (Ruettger’s Curator of Landscape) and Matt Girard (MVVA) on the history of landscapes at the museum and recent gardens by MVVA and LIRIO.

LIRIO collaborated with IIT Landscape Architecture students to install temporary neighborhood activity zones on campus in the time of COVID-19.

Invest South/West “is an unprecedented community improvement initiative under Mayor Lori Lightfoot to marshal the resources of multiple City departments, community organizations, and corporate and philanthropic partners toward 10 communities on Chicago's South and West Sides.” The team of Darrell Garrison/Planning Resources, Julian Bonder, Ron Henderson/Lirio, Doug Williams, and HKS were one of the selected pre-qualified firms selected for this initiative.

Ron Henderson presented “Formed by Water: Semnan, Iran,” research completed with Nastaran Tebyanian, at the 2020 Fluidity Partynar, an online colloquium convened by Andrew Todd and Bridget O’Rourke in Blanot, France.

Ron Henderson’s commentary on public parks in the time of COVID-19 was published in the Chicago Tribune.

Ron Henderson is invited to deliver a talk for the Landscape Lecture Series at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. Lirio has a two decade association with the museum, including gardens for the museum expansion in 2012.

Ron Henderson was invited for the panel discussion, Plants in the Imagination, with Doug Reed and Julian Raxworthy hosted by Anita Berrizbeitia at Harvard GSD.
