A backyard garden is structured by lines oriented toward existing trees on, or just beyond, the property so the resident puppy can harmlessly chase after squirrels. It is an imperial hunting ground on a small urban site modeled after the Bois de Boulogne. A shallow, carved bluestone basin collects rain to entice birds and squirrels to the center of the garden while also collecting reflections of the sky onto the ground. At Lirio, we are not big fans of pachysandra, but it is the perfect bright green dense groundcover for the Lines of Assault Garden.
