Three Awards for Lirio Landscape Architecture
The American Society of Landscape Architects – Rhode Island recognized LIRIO with three awards at the biannual awards ceremony. City Walk Providence received the Honor Award for Planning and Analysis. Kiruna (Sweden) City Hall Square (above) received the Honor Award for “On the Boards.” Ron Henderson’s book, The Gardens of Suzhou, received the Special Recognition Award which is reserved for “a single project that recognizes outstanding professional accomplishment and stands alone from the other entries in its attributions.”
Director of Landscape Architecture at IIT
Ron Henderson has been appointed Professor and Director of the Landscape Architecture Program at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT).
Construction Management Association of America Award
The Field’s Point Wastewater Treatment Facility, which includes L+A’s Landfill Garden, received the Award from the Construction Management Association of America’s New England Chapter for Infrastructure Projects less than $75 million. October 2014

European Prize for Public Space
The Memorial de l’abolition de l’esclavage (Memorial to the Abolition of Slavery) in Nantes (France) has been awarded Honorable Mention in the annual European Prize for Urban Public Space. L+A was collaborating landscape architect with the artist Krzysztof Wodiczko and the architect Julian Bonder, designers of the riverfront memorial and promenade.
ASLA Council of Fellows
Ron Henderson was nominated by the ASLA Rhode Island Chapter and elected to the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Council of Fellows. Elevation to the ASLA Council of Fellows is among the highest honors a landscape architect may receive. The designation of Fellow is conferred upon individuals in recognition of exceptional accomplishments over a sustained period of time. October 2012
International House of Japan
Ron Henderson was elected to membership of the International House of Japan – a private, non-profit organization incorporated with support from the Rockefeller Foundation and other private institution and individuals in 1952 for the purpose of promoting cultural exchange and intellectual cooperation between the peoples of Japan and those of other countries. It is a working international community engaged directly in a variety of programs that embody the free exchange and interaction of ideas and that strive to foster a climate favorable to international cooperation.
